Enrollment Terms & Key Dates — UPTempo

Enrollment

Enrollment is for the full year, October 2026 through June 2027, following the school calendar.
Tuition is based on 29 guaranteed classes during the school year. There are 31 classes on the calendar, so if we have to miss for a snow day we still have enough scheduled days to meet our 29 classes without adding a make-up.
Weather cancellations are not made up unless your child would otherwise receive fewer than 29 classes.
Classes are limited to 6 students so that every child gets to play.

What tuition includes

Weekly 45-minute band rehearsals with Jason
Two Band Parties at TEMPO — end of January and mid-June — where the bands play their original songs for family and friends
Play-At-Home materials: a folder with weekly Play-At-Home inserts
Full access to Connect, Brooklyn Music Factory's suite of interactive music games, with weekly digital reports and resources for how to Play-At-Home each week

Tuition

Like all of TEMPO's programming, tuition is offered at three tiers to ensure music is accessible to all. Choose the tier that works for your family — the class experience is identical at every level.

Community Enrollment

$129/month

For anyone who would like to enroll and could use support with the standard tuition rate.

Standard Enrollment

$145/month

Covers the cost of running this class and supports the staff and space that make TEMPO possible. If you're unsure which level to choose, this is a great place to land.

Supporter Enrollment

$161/month

The standard rate plus an additional amount to help expand access for others, sustain our programs, and invest in the future of this space. Thank you for paying it forward!

The annual tuition for your chosen tier is divided into nine equal monthly installments, billed October through June.
Families who enroll after the start of the year are billed a prorated tuition reflecting the number of scheduled classes remaining.

Trial period & cancellation

Two-class trial period

If you do not want to continue after your child's first or second class for any reason, you can cancel immediately and we'll issue a full refund for all tuition paid to date.

Cancelling after the trial period

After the initial two-week trial period, you can cancel anytime before the end of the school year with 30 days' notice, which gives us time to fill the spot. Once notice is given, you will be charged for the remaining classes scheduled in your final 30 days.

Example: If you pay on the 1st and cancel on October 15, you'll get 4 more weeks of lessons and a smaller November bill.

Snow days & missed classes

Tuition is based on 29 classes and the calendar has 31, so weather cancellations aren't made up unless your child would otherwise get fewer than 29 classes.

While you're at TEMPO

Parents and caregivers are expected to stay on site at TEMPO while their child is in band rehearsal.
Family members are welcome to wait in the designated area of the TEMPO Lounge while class is in session, and of course to use the bathrooms.
Entering any other rooms (including upstairs), going on the TEMPO Lounge stage, or handling any objects without explicit permission or supervision by TEMPO staff is not permitted and could result in removal from the program.
Please note that TEMPO is NOT a nut-free zone.

UPTempo follows the Kingston City School District calendar. Whenever Kingston City Schools are closed for a holiday or break, there is no UPTempo class that day. On top of the school calendar, UPTempo also cancels classes on a few additional days around the Thanksgiving and winter holidays so that families can travel.

Wednesday, November 11, 2026 — Veterans Day
Wednesday, November 25, 2026 — Thanksgiving recess

Gig & Band Party

There will be two Band Parties during the year for students & families so students have a chance to perform their bands' songs on the Tempo Lounge stage and celebrate with the whole UPTempo community.

Friday, January 22, 2027 — 5:30–7:30 PM
Friday, June 11, 2027 — 5:30–7:30 PM

If Kingston City Schools close unexpectedly (for example, a snow day), UPTempo classes are cancelled that day as well.
